Solar for Swimming Pool Pumps?

Solar pool pump

The short answer is YES YOU CAN!! Now pool pump companies like SunRay offer a completely “Off-Grid” solar swimming pool pump for both inground and above ground pools and also spas.

All that is needed to run your pool off grid is to size the pump according to your pool’s total gallon capacity, which traditionally for a back yard residential pool,  a 1hp pool pump is sufficient for a 15,000 to 20,000 gallon pool. Installing the pool pump is no different than installing a traditional electric pool pump with the exception of the controller which comes with the Solar pool pump and of course the solar panels needed to run it.

Once the solar pool pump is plumbed into the piping of your pool, simply plug the Solar pump into the controller. Then the solar panels are wired into the controller in series so as to up the DC voltage between the panels providing the 60vdc to 90vdc nessessary to filter the water through your pool. (please consult your Solar Pump for correct number of solar panels and the correct voltage, or wattage.)

Once installed the Solar Pool Pump will provide water flow whenever the sun is shinning eliminating all electric costs associated with your current pool costs.

How Much Money will it Save? The average pool pump uses about $50 to $75 dollars a month of electricity. Going “Off-Grid” with your swimming pool will save you save you at least $300 to $500 a pool season.(more if you live where you can swim all year long.) So you can see it doesn’t take long for you to be able to pay for the solar pool pump.

Also please check to see. Many states are offering tax credits for converting your pool to solar.
