The reason for the Electoral College invention was so that large populated states such as California and/or New York would not dominate and elect the President every 4 years.  The genius of the Electoral College was to give smaller populated states just as much attention as larger state’s issues.  Under this system, a U.S. Presidential Candidate can not afford to skip over the smaller states in order to spend all of their money on the large states or larger state’s issues just to win.  With the electoral college map in place, now small states issues are discussed and dealt with along side the larger state’s issues.  A candidate if He or She wishes to win must visit or concern themselves with as many states as they can in order to get to the magic number of 270 electoral college votes to win the Presidency.  Try the electoral college map now and see if your candidate will win.
